UBC Candidates Acing it at Stand Tall

By Nicole Schouela

The two Candidates from the Faculty of Education at UBC are at Stand Tall for three weeks doing their practicum. Joanna Williams and Karen Friesen are doing a stellar job. They fit right in to all school activities and have come up with some of their own including drama and art activities.

Welcoming UBC student teachers is an enriching experience for all involved.  The children at Stand Tall look forward to receiving new visitors in their classrooms and often bond quickly to their offshore friends. The staff at Stand Tall enjoys the cross-cultural exchange and the sharing of different teaching techniques, and the UBC student teachers gain experience working in a different environment from the one in a Canadian school. We appreciate their flexibility in and outside of the classroom. After three short weeks, they leave better equipped to teach every type of student in a holistic way.
