Two Outstanding Future Teachers
By Nicole Schouela
Karen Friesen and Joanna Williams, two UBC faculty of education candidates, completed a three week practicum at Stand Tall in May, and in that short period of time, they immersed themselves in the school culture and won the hearts of both the learners and staff. They not only taught academic classes but took the initiative of introducing music and voice classes. They worked on an art project – a giving tree of tropical fruits – which will be exhibited at Main Street Day in Vancouver.
Both Karen and Joanna shed tears on their last day and Stand Tall will always remember their dedication and the caring they showed the children. We have no doubt that they will make excellent teachers, and that this experience has enriched and broadened their perspective.
